ProPhounD officially launched in January 2022. Since then, we’ve served over 650 PhD-getters and PhD-holders from 11 different countries! We’ve also hosted over 14 events and have grown our LinkedIn connections. See more about our growth in our 2022 Year in Review.

But we’re just getting started. This year, we are scaling into something larger, more accessible, and able to help even more PhDs find careers that they love.

Meet the team!

Our story

ProPhounD’s founding team started as a group of socially-concerned postdocs and career development professionals looking for community and action during a time of pandemic loneliness and restlessness.

The world has big problems. Solutions need 1) people with passion and expertise to be paired with 2) the right problems and the resources to solve them. The community of PhD-holders is full of bright, intelligent, dedicated professionals teeming with potential to impact the world. But far too often, this group of people toils in jobs that don’t excite them or remains hidden from companies working on big, important problems.

We believe that PhDs are a majorly underutilized portion of the workforce. Seeing so many intelligent, dedicated individuals not achieving their full potential breaks our hearts.

While exploring our collective mission to help PhDs find meaningful work, we discovered a common set of frustrations in our own searches for work and those of our peers. We realized that the hiring process is painful for PhDs and companies needing them. 

The key missing feature of this process is connection over problems people love working on. Currently, there are too many transactional interactions between employers and job-seekers, from misconceptions of PhDs and what they have to offer (both by potential employers and PhDs themselves!), from a lack of data to drive decision-making, and from a lack of safe spaces and experiential opportunities for PhDs to explore, learn, and ask questions.

We’re so excited to bring ProPhounD to the world. Every day, we strive to make it easier for PhDs and employers to connect over world-changing problems. Through this connection, we know that the world will be a better place than it was before.
